Thatch Caye & Scuba Diving
Thatch Caye has a full time PADI scuba instructor, two PADI divemasters, and a host of dive boats that can take you out to the fabulous Barrier Reef of Belize. Experience the spur and groove reef dive experience of the Tobacco Caye channel as well as the spectacular wall diving throughout the South Water Caye Marine Reserve. Our wall dives typically begin at 40 to 50 feet depth and can drop off into the abyss. Thatch Caye can do deep dives (to 130 feet maximum) with more experienced divers and also offers incredible night dives. We are one of the only dive resorts in Belize that offers trips to all three atolls and to the whale sharks during the full moons of March, April, and May. Thatch Caye is also one of a limited number of dive operations that dives the Black Hole of Colombus Caye and the Blue Hole of Lighthouse Reef.

All dives in and around the South Water Caye Marine Reserve are considered local dives and are included in our dive package. Atoll trips and whale shark excursions are extra charges and whale shark excursions can only be done on the full moon or three days before and after it during March, April, and May. Thatch Caye will soon have a liveaboard catamaran, which is also an excellent dive option for atoll trips and more intensive diving. Please inquire about pricing.

Many people are familiar with "The Blue Hole" but a hidden gem lies beneath the surface located inside the barrier reef. It’s called "The Black Hole". The hole has pre-historic stalactites, cathedral vaulted cave arches, and hosts a variety of sea-life, including sharks.
The second half of your day will be spent out at the world famous Turneffe Elbow. This dive is one of the best dives in all of Belize and often has multiple schools of snappers, permits, amberjacks, horse-eyed jacks, and sightings of turtles are common. If you dive Turneffe, the Elbow is the "must see" attraction
Rates: $200 US/person includes 2 dives, picnic lunch. Scuba equipment is not included in the above price. 4 person minimum is required.

Lighthouse Reef and The Great Blue Hole |

This site was made famous by Jacques-Yves Cousteau who declared it one of the top ten scuba diving sites in the world! Investigations by this expedition confirmed the holes origin as a typical Karst limestone formation, formed before rises in sea level in at least four stages, leaving ledges at depths of 70, 160 and 300 feet. Now it’s your turn to explore, where Cousteau left off, the deep blue depths of The Great Blue Hole.
