Learn to dive with our PADI Professional Diving Staff.

Thatch Caye Resort is proud to be managed by one of only four PADI Course Directors in all of Belize.  This means all of our diving staff are trained by one of the most highly certified and experienced divers in the world.  When Shaz, our Director of Operations, isn't in her home office responding to your email or running Ocean Pro Divers, her retail scuba shop located in Vancouver BC, you can find her on the island diving with our customers.

Discover Scuba Diving

Discover Scuba Diving Experience

If you don’t yet know how to scuba dive, the clear Caribbean water at Thatch Caye Resort is the perfect place to start.  The PADI Discover Scuba Diving course is the fastest and easiest way to try scuba diving.   After just a half-hour of theory, you will begin to explore the underwater world and practice some skills in the shallows.  Once you have mastered the basics, you can head out for a dive with one of our resort team’s experienced PADI dive staff.

This experience is a great way for non-certified divers to to dive the crystal clear waters of Belize or to find out what scuba diving is really like before you take the full certification course.  The Discover Scuba Diving experience is easy, fun and above all – safe!

In the morning there will be a short theory session in which you will learn the important basic rules for scuba diving (dealing with water pressure, breathing on scuba, etc.), followed by being shown the equipment and how it works before venturing into the shallow water off the caye. You will then practice some easy skills to help familiarize yourself with breathing underwater and using the scuba equipment, so by the end of the morning session, you’ll be ready to go for a real dive!

The dive boat will then take you to a beautiful shallow coral reef, suitable for both divers and snorkelers. Your dive team member will be with you at all times on your dive, where you will be shown all the treasures the underwater world has to offer.

After seeing what the amazing underwater world has to offer we’re sure you will want to dive again! We offer a Repeat Resort Course, which means you can dive as many times as you wish during your stay with us without repeating the shallow water and theory session again.

All participants will need to sign a PADI Discover Scuba Diving Brochure including a medical and liability form.  Physician’s sign off may be required.  If you have any concerns – check with us before your holiday.

PADI eLearning Open Water Certification

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba course, and has introduced millions of people to the adventurous diving lifestyle.  You can learn to dive during your stay at Thatch Caye Resort and earn your PADI Open Water Certification.

You will complete the Theory Section on-line (sign up here - fee of US$138 payable direct to PADI), then when you arrive in Belize we will start your in-water training.

Prior to participating in the Open Water Course, students must complete the following three forms.

Scuba Review

If you are a certified diver but haven’t been diving for a while or just want to tune up your skills before you hit the water, the Scuba Review program is for you.   As Scuba Diving is a technical sport with ever changing procedures and equipment, it can be easy to forget basic SCUBA skills. This course will reacquaint you with diving so that you’re back to feeling comfortable in the underwater world in less than a day, re-familiarizing you with safe dive practices, dive planning, equipment and computer use.

The morning will start with a basic dive theory session to review safety procedures, buoyancy control and emergency situations. We will then re-familiarize you with the dive equipment you will be using before jumping into the shallow water to practice skills such as mask clearing & out of air procedures.

You then have the option to either join the morning boat dive at 10 am or the afternoon boat at 2 pm to complete a shallow dive. You will be accompanied by an instructor who will ease you back into diving and guide you around a beautiful shallow reef.

For safety reasons, Thatch Caye Resort requires that a Scuba Review Course be taken for anyone who has not been diving in two years or more.

Please remember to bring your certification card with you when you check-in with our dive team prior to starting your Refresher Course.  Upon successful completion of your course you are more than welcome to join us on any of our other dives!
